NEWPORT BEACH'S "THE WEDGE" &
BALBOA BEACH SUNSET

Due to a storm off the New Zealand coast a couple of weeks ago, the waves and surf in southern California has been tremendously influenced. There were several beach closings due to flooding of parking lots, high surf and dangerous rip tides over the Labor Day weekend. The Wedge, in Newport Beach, received a lot of news coverage as the typically 10 foot waves were now in the 20+ foot range. Since this popular area for body board surfing is so shallow, they don't allow the longer surf boards there.  The spectators had some awesome viewing of the body boarders as they tried to master the huge waves!

From the Wedge, we drove over to Balboa Beach Pier and stayed for the sunset. Awesome!
